Sports Books

If you are a keen sportsman or woman, then you can get plenty of benefit from reading sports books, whether you read to try and improve your performances or simply for the entertainment of reading about other people in sport.

One of the key elements of many successful sports people is their incredible mental strength- concentration to maintain a performance, tenacity to come back after a poor performance and the determination to keep going through tough training sessions are all very important mental characteristics to anyone in sport as are lots of other mental attributes. Whilst these mental attributes are to an extent hereditary, there are plenty of books that can help you improve your mental approach to sport- they can teach you techniques that will increase your mental attributes and hopefully your performance levels.

Most sports these days are incredibly technical, and reading technique orientated sports books could really help you improve, whether it be perfecting your golf swing, fine tuning your running stride or improving you’re tackling in football. These lessons are especially relevant to sports people who are early in their careers, as it will reduce the chances of them picking up bad habits later on, which might later take time to correct. If you are considering reading technical sports books, then pick books written by well renowned coaches or sports people as they are likely to be providing the best advice as they have had first hand experience of using these techniques.

Some of the achievements made by individuals in sport have been absolutely incredible and can really inspire you if you read about them. A stellar example is Lance Armstrong, who recovered from testicular cancer to win the Tour de France, the most prestigious race in cycling, a record seven times consecutively. Whether you are into sport or not, you cannot help be impressed by a man who has achieved as much as he, and reading about inspirational figures like Lance can be very interesting.

If you think that all of these previous ideas seem a little bit serious, then don’t be alarmed as there are plenty of humorous sports books out there, written for your entertainment. Sport has attracted some very interesting characters over its history and plenty of books have been written about them- for example cricket has a rich history of both eccentrics and bad boys and the exchanges between some cricketers, affectionately known as sledging are downright hilarious. There are also plenty of sports fiction books out there too, if you prefer reading the work of an imaginative writer.
