Whilst a lot of this website tends to deal with authors of fiction novels, the books written by Dave Ramsay will arguably be more useful to most people than a nice book to read. Ramsay deals with a subject that affects all of us- money- how to earn it and how to secure your finances. As well as being a very successful author, he is the host of a major talk show “The Dave Ramsay Show” and the tagline of his show “It’s about your life and your money” neatly sums up what his work is all about.
Ramsay does not offer get rich quick schemes, or methods that will eliminate your debt with a flick of your fingers, but he can teach you how to get yourself out of debt and how to secure your finances. He has been very successful in business himself, and as well as helping people get out of financial trouble, his books also can help you get to a level where you have plenty of money to enjoy yourself.
The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness
This Dave Ramsay book is aimed at helping people secure their own “financial fitness” and the main philosophy behind his system is pretty simple- work hard, pay your debt and stay out of the red. Ramsay proposes some step by step savings to make that should help the reader get on the path to a debt free life. Perhaps the greatest positive of the book is not the simple debt reduction strategies that it teaches, but the motivation it can give to a reader. Ramsay uses anecdotes about other people who have achieved these steps in order to help people feel like they can get hold of their financial lives as well. Whilst this book probably isn’t directly aligned with the theme of this website, personal debt is becoming an increasing problem in the western world, and it is great to see an author who tries to tackle this issue head on.
How to Have More Than Enough: A Step by Step Guide to Financial Abundance
Moving on from securing your finances, this book of Ramsay’s focuses on the far more positive issue of how to get ahead in life and how to remain ahead. We could all do with a little more money- it allows us a nicer house or a nicer car and perhaps a more enjoyable life. Having a step by step guide to creating financial abundance is also arguably a lot more valuable than having a generalised text on the subject- it gives you concrete goals to aim for, rather than a general direction in which to aim. Ramsay has been financially successful himself, and you never know, this book might be the best investment you will ever make!
