Danielle Steel is one of the best selling authors of all time, born Danielle Fernandes Dominique Schuelein Steel in 1947, in New York. She has had phenomenal literary success; with nearly 600 million of her books in print around the world in 47 different countries- she also has nearly 750 thousand fans on facebook!
Her books tend to deal with drama and romance and also retain a focus on events that affect ordinary people, arguably one of the reasons why she has become so incredibly popular around the world- people can relate to her work. Danielle does not tend to write sequels, so if you want to read some of her work then there is no need to start at any book of hers in particular. Danielle Steel has also written books for children in a series called “Max and Martha”, which were written to try and help comfort youngsters when they are facing things that they are a little bit scared of.
Legacy
Legacy was written in 2010 and the main character is Brigitte Nicholson a thirty eight year old academic with a comfortable life and a steady archaeologist husband. However when her mother asks her for her assistance on a family genealogy project, she discovers a mysterious Sioux Indian in her family tree. Brigitte follows the life of they young Sioux woman, and in the process her own life is dragged out of its previously steady comfort zone.
Five Days in Paris
Five Days in Paris was written in 1995 and follows two American characters, Peter Haskell and Olivia Thatcher. Peter has a tight knit family and a good job behind him, but Olivia is unhappily married to a powerful US senator. However on the night of a bomb scare in Paris, their paths cross and they quickly realise they are made for each other- however both have families to return to and difficult decision to make.
44 Charles Street
After Manhattan art dealer Francesca Thayer is abandoned by both her boyfriend and her business partner, she struggles to make ends meet. To save her house, she rents out rooms, and the she becomes close friends with her lodgers. However the peace is shattered when Francesca has to confront some difficult issues.
Max and Martha
As well as her successful novels, Danielle Steel also published a children’s series from 1989 to 1991 called “Max and Martha” which was designed to help children with tricky issues. The books cover areas such as going to a new school, going to the hospital and gaining a step father.
